I want $?&.@% for my copper

Hey fellas, since coming down here to Florida and adjusting to the scene of numerous other Scrappers, the price of copper from place to place varies heavily. A few places are in the $2.20s and I refuse to accept that. I don't turn in my copper on every run, I wait until I have a few hundred pounds and shop it around. The last time I had to drive about 30 minutes from my house and got 2.70. What's it like in your area? I plan on storing up close to about 500lbs and shop it around aggressively for about $3.00 and up.

Thanks for the response fellas. Here is how things work on the business end of things, when a yard sells its copper, they for darn sure is going to get top dollar especially when they have really large amount of it. Realistically, us Scrappers are the ones doing the hard work of harvesting this stuff from tear downs, stripping, etc. so we should get a bigger piece of the pie as long as we have a certain amount to broker with. Is that too brass of an attitude?

Sort of - but its business mentality.. the whole " well why do I need you then? " ideology. But I understand - everyone up this way gets their panties in a twist if they find out you are shopping around.

But they have to put the money out for it and wait until they have "x"amount before they sell it.

Also, Make sure you tell them you have a few hundred lbs when you ask about prices

What part of Florida are you in. I haven't sold any copper in a while but most of the time it's around 2.70-2.80#. I'm on the west coast just north of Tampa. And that's #2 price.

Right before Christmas #1 copper was $2.50 and #2 was $2.40. Haven't turned in any BB in a while.

I am doing the same thing with wire.........Everyone wants to downgrade the wire I harvest from power supplies, electronics, etc to #3......I do not cut off the ends except for the larger transformer type..........I will not accept .35cents per lb.........I get a lot of wire but was just selling it as I filled up a tub or two to keep it moving and out of my way............Figure when I get around #500lbs I will start making some phone calls.........If anyone is interested I do get a lot of wire and would be willing to sell to anyone who offers a fair price

    Times are tuff.

Copper is a strange beast with nuances that have made it more difficult to make a living. The margins are not like they were a couple of months ago. I spend most of my time researching predictions or vodo to gain a better understanding of copper. I have processed more wire than some and less than others. The best piece of advice I have is know what you have, know what you can sell it for, then go get it.
It frustrates me when someone says you should be able to get 6 gallons of water out of that 5 gallon bucket because I don't know if they are ignorant a crook or both
